Payday loan limit in Manitoba

Manitoba has a new $ 17 per $ 100 limit on all payday advances cash. The rate was recommended by the Public Utilities Board in Manitoba. The rules are only allowed to be enforced by the government especially after the PUB tried to do it alone. Manitoba also needs that less than 30 percent of a paycheck could be put into a payday loan. $ 17 is supposed to be after counting fees and charges.

Jurisdiction?

It took the federal government a long time to finally discuss Manitoba’s new regulations. This two-year lag was in part because of The Cash Store. The business challenged the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Board to create these limits. The recommendations of the board settled this lawsuit.

One more limit in a Canadian province

Canada decided the individual provinces should be allowed to regulate their own paydayloans in 2006. Maximum rate limits were already set in British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Nova Scotia. These limits on charges range between $ 21 and $ 31 per $ 100 lent.

Canadian companies with paycheck loans reaction

Manitoba limits were reacted upon by the Canadian Pay day loan Association. Recent studies in Canada show that the average cost of offering a $ 100 payday loan in Canada is $ 26. Because of all the defaults made along with how short the loan is out, profit can’t be made off the loan consistently.
